Site: Hamilton Blvd Project, Mobile County, Alabama

Contractor: Hosea O. Weaver and Sons, Inc

Thanks to Hosea Weaver's well constructed and maintained Type-A silt fence, erosion from the soil shown in this photo was prevented from discharging sediment pollution into Dog River Waterbasin during heavy rains the day before. The silt fence trapped the eroding dirt.

Without well anchored mulch, disturbed soil will simply wash away downstream as shown here. Notice the rills (cuts in the dirt caused by water flowing downhill). If this road shoulder area had well anchored mulch in it, as in the two previous photos, there would be almost no erosion here. Getting soil quickly stabilized is the best solution to controlling erosion and sediment runoff from construction sites.
