There was a clear gully around the main sediment pond. Water coming from the sediment pond was clear and water coming from around the side of it was muddy. There was evidence that work had been done before I arrived to keep water from following that gully and divert it into the sediment pond. This site was reported because it was causing heavy sedimentation in the Elk River.

Loretta Smith of the Avery County Planning Department went and inspected the site the next day and they had put a berm in place to ensure that the the storm flow from the site was in fact draining into their sediment pond instead of going around it.

Mrs. Smith visited the site the day after it was reported and got the problem fixed while she was there. I visited the site the day of the report and there appeared to already some effort to fix the problem of water going around the sediment pond.
